1st Century Ply Open Air Chess Tournament was held at Simpark, New Market at the heart of Kolkata on 26th December. A total number of 158 players took part in the event which was held under 5 different categories.

Lhundrup Dorji, a teenager from Bhutan emerged as a surprise winner of the Under 17 category with 4.5 points after 5 rounds.

In the under 14 category, Yug Desai scored a perfect 5 points in 5 rounds to win the event. Anurag Roy, Rihansh Pandey and Aharnish Nanda became champion in Under 12, 10 and 8 categories respectively.

This event was organized by Bengal Chess Association in association with Lindsay Street Youth Club. Hundreds of visitors to the busy New Market enjoyed the ambience of children focussing on chess board in a crowded market place.

Prizes were given away by Councillor Asim Bose, Ershad Ahmed , Qamar, noted Social workers, and Mr Palden Dorji, the President of Bhutan Chess Federation.
