PRESS RELEASE
BENGAL CHESS ASSOCIATION CONDEMNS DIBYENDU BARUA FOR
THEATENING CHESS PLAYERS.
It has come to our knowledge that Dibyendu Barua and his associates have been threatening chess players from West Bengal for participating in chess tournament not sanctioned by him. Such threats are issued by him through social media posts as well as physically at various events.
Dibyendu Barua had lost in the elections for the post of President of Bengal Chess Association on 15.03.2020. His brother-in-law Shyamal Dutta secured last position among the 20 candidates for the post of Secretary in the same elections. Both Barua and Shyamal Dutta run private chess coaching centers in Kolkata. Ever since their defeat in the elections, they are running an extortion racket by the name of SBDS with the help of some harmful elements. Their aim is to forcibly extort money from anybody who plays chess under the garb of entry fees. If a player participates in a chess tournament which does not pay tax to Barua’s SBDS, he is threatened that his chess career will be over.
Bengal Chess Association strongly denounces such unlawful acts of Dibyendu Barua and pledges to stand by the rights of chess players in West Bengal.
